The Keep America Beautiful/Great American Cleanup project will take place nationwide this Saturday with more than 20,000 communities joining together to clean up areas in their neighborhoods, roadsides, parks and recreational areas by removing litter and debris, planting trees and flowers and properly disposing of hazardous waste at drop-off points.
Hazardous Household Waste Collection Day is a major part of the Dyer County Great American Cleanup project. The City of Dyersburg and Dyer County officials will hold their annual hotdog cookout for all participants at the fairgrounds' collection point.
The following items will be collected for free, quick and environmentally sound disposal at the Dyer County Fairgrounds from 8 a.m. until noon on Saturday, May 2.

* wood and metal cleaners and polishes
* toilet bowl cleaners
* strong disinfectants
* computers, monitors, keyboards, mice
* televisions
* cell phones
* PDAs
* cathode ray tubes
* pagers
* fuel and oil additives
* grease and rust solvents, naval jelly
* carburetor and fuel-injector cleaners
* starter fluids
* body putty
* antifreeze/coolants
* gasoline
* oil-based paints
* paint strippers and removers
* adhesives
* paint thinners
* pesticides
* fertilizers
* wood preservatives
* rechargeable batteries
* pool chemicals
* photo-processing chemicals
* medicines/drugs
* aerosols/compressed gas
Items not accepted include: medical and infectious waste, ammunition, explosives, radioactive wastes, smoke detectors, latex paint or any empty containers.
